Sam Hefter,
Executive Chef

Learn about our chef, Sam.

From dish rags to culinary riches, Sam Hefter started his career as a dishwasher in a bar. When he worked his way up to salads, he realized that he had both a knack and a passion for food and the creative outlet it gave him. That’s when he left to pursue a culinary education, receiving his Associate’s in Culinary Arts from Johnson & Wales in North Miami, Florida.

Hefter was working as a Culinary Manager with Hillstone in New Orleans when his mother was diagnosed with cancer. He dropped everything to be closer to his native North Side Chicago. After his mother was given a clean bill of health, Hefter relocated to Kansas City as the executive chef of Plaza icon, Houston’s. It was there that he met the creative minds behind Trident, who are also associated with Westport Ale House. Hefter was then invited to join The Rockhill Grille as Culinary Manager. “This is the first restaurant I’ve been able to be creative and put my name on it,” Hefter says of The Rockhill Grille.

Now, in leading the highly-anticipated debut of Parkway Social Kitchen, Hefter seeks to provide guests with American fare that’s perfectly executed and far removed from the pretentiousness that plagues upscale dining. “I’m a straightforward guy,” Hefter says. “My food is equally straightforward.”

Hefter doesn’t need to reinvent a dish. He just wants it to be the best version of that dish you’ve ever had.

Parkway Social Kitchen is the perfect stage for Hefter’s simple style to shine. With a traditional wood-burning oven warming the little kitchen and a focus on comfort foods with high-quality ingredients, Hefter brings culinary arts back to the basics: real food, real ingredients, from scratch, daily.
